Healthcare & Democracy
Summit

On November 24, 2025, The Samaritan Health Project, Inc. (TSHP), the City of Little Rock, Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., and Edwards Food Giant supported over 400 families during a community food giveaway at Edwards Cash Saver. All turkeys were distributed quickly, and TSHP purchased additional gift cards so every remaining resident received help. TSHP thanks all partners for uplifting families this holiday season.

This Town Hall Forum uplifted the voices of Little Rock’s grassroots community, creating a powerful space to confront critical health needs and inequities. Led by Civil Rights Health Advocate Dr. Sandra Bruce Nichols and Deborah M. Bell of Better Community Development, the conversation centered on systemic barriers—such as limited access to care, pharmacy deserts, and economic hardship—and emphasized a collective UBUNTU approach. The gathering aimed to spark community-driven solutions for better health, equity, and long-term well-being.

The Samaritan Health Project, Inc. hosted the inaugural Healthcare & Democracy Summit in January at Philander Smith University. The free, public event features health screenings, expert panels, keynote speaker Dr. Yolanda Lawson, and a luncheon honoring Dr. Jocelyn Elders and Rev. Dr. William Robinson, Jr. The summit aims to advance conversation around access to health care and inspire community action.
